  • Freshwater fishing in Victoria

    Discovering freshwater fishing in Victoria will take you on a journey of tranquil slow flowing rivers, shaded by lush green forest ferns, where the wild Brown Trout wait for the contest. On to a picturesque lake which are abundant with Murray Cod, Golden Perch and the gorgeous Rainbow Trout.

    The popular freshwater areas are mostly within just two hours drive from the heart of Melbourne, which makes it possible to enjoy a day trip or a relaxing weekend. Enjoy the spectacular scenery that these areas have to offer. Rivers such as Yarra, Goulburn, Rubicon, Murrindindi, and the Acheron have been synonymous with anglers for many years.

    Victoria has an incredible amount of freshwater streams with good access by foot; most of the rivers can be located on a local map with access points of where to start. All the rivers allow you to fish bait, lure or fly, so now it’s up to you, you will only be limited by your imagination.

    Karkarook Park - Warrigal Road, Moorabbin.
    Karkarook Park is a family friendly park with a lake that is situated in an industrial estate off Warrigal Road in Moorabbin. 
    The Department of Primary Industry stocks this Lake each school holiday with trout. Carp and Redfin numbers are also on the rise making this an all year round local freshwater fishing spot

    Lake Eildon
    Lake Eildon is without doubt Victoria most popular Freshwater fishery and is located only 90 minutes from Melbourne. 
    Over recent years the water levels have fluctuated between 8% and 59% capacity but even at low levels good fishing is available. Well known native fishery with Large Murray Cod and Golden Perch being targeted.  Murray Cod over 20kg and Perch up to 7kg are not uncommon.......... 

    Lillydale Lake
    Lillydale Lake is a family friendly Lake with great parking, BBQ areas, children’s playground but best of all, a local spot close to Melbourne Metro with an array of species on offer. The Department of Primary Industry stocks this Lake on a regular basis with trout and Redfin.  Carp numbers are also good making for year around great fishing
